Earlier this year, EvoEnergy installed a 67 kWp solar carport for Nottingham City Council at their recently refurbished Harvey Hadden Sports Village. The initiative was last night acknowledged by the Nottingham Post, which named the project ‘Innovation of the Year’ at its annual Environmental Awards for Nottinghamshire businesses.
The award was collected by the council at the awards ceremony, this year held at the Belfry Hotel in Nottinghamshire, with EvoEnergy also attending the event alongside the client where a relationship has been in place since 2011.
The solar carport innovation has given the popular Sports Village the means to generate and use free, green electricity onsite through a structure that spans 40 car parking spaces. It is estimated that the carport will generate 50,772 kWh of electricity every year, subsequently reducing the council’s carbon footprint by over 28 tonnes annually.
The installation is part of the council’s strategy to reduce carbon emissions in the city by 26% by 2020. The award not only credits their ongoing commitment to the environment but also their work with local EPC contractors, such as EvoEnergy, to design and install innovative solutions to achieve their goal.
