Renewable energy campaigners will be talking with North Cornwall residents this weekend in an effort to plough £300,000 into community projects and produce 30 per cent of Wadebridge’s electricity consumption from renewable sources by 2015.
The Wadebridge Renewable Energy Network (WREN) will be launched at an information event in the Town Hall on Saturday, allowing residents to register an interest in the various renewable energy efforts available to help reduce the town’s carbon footprint.
Recently a number of a number of landowners have registered an interest in setting up solar powered farms in Cornwall to take advantage of the Feed-in Tariff.
WREN spokesman Stephen Frankel said: “We have some of the best sun and wind resources in the country, so let’s harness them for the good of the people of Wadebridge.
“In other projects most of the financial benefits go out of the area, and mostly go out of the country. WREN will make sure that the benefits of renewables stay here in Wadebridge to bring jobs and benefits to all sections of the community.”
Plans will be showcased to offer homeowners, businesses and landowners the opportunity to install photovoltaic solar panels on their properties and land.
