Summary
Cranswick PLC, one of the UK’s largest food producers, continues to invest in on-site renewable energy to support its carbon neutrality and net-zero ambitions. At its Milton Keynes facility, EvoEnergy delivered a 1.48 MWp rooftop solar PV installation designed to integrate seamlessly with existing infrastructure while maximising on-site generation. The project forms part of a wider multi-site rollout across Cranswick’s UK operations.
The challenge
The Milton Keynes site presented several technical and operational complexities. The facility required an MPAN merger to streamline metering and energy management, alongside integration of the solar PV system with an existing Combined Heat and Power, CHP, unit.

Export control was also required, necessitating the installation of a G100 relay to regulate grid export and ensure compliance with DNO requirements. In addition, HV infrastructure upgrades were needed to accommodate the new generation capacity.
As an operational food production site, strict hygiene, PPE, and safety standards had to be maintained throughout the installation, ensuring no disruption to production processes.
Our Solution
EvoEnergy designed and installed a 1.48 MWp rooftop solar PV system comprising 3,284 Trina 450W modules. The system was carefully engineered to operate alongside the site’s CHP plant, balancing on-site generation and demand to maximise self-consumption.

We managed the MPAN merger process and delivered the required HV upgrades to strengthen the site’s electrical infrastructure. A G100 export limitation system was integrated to maintain grid compliance while enabling the facility to benefit fully from its renewable generation.
Throughout delivery, works were coordinated closely with Cranswick’s operational teams to meet the stringent standards expected within the food manufacturing sector.
The Result
The completed system now generates approximately 1,222,000 kWh of renewable electricity annually, reducing the site’s carbon emissions by an estimated 253,015 kg of CO₂ per year.

Delivered within a 6–8 week programme, the installation was completed safely and efficiently, reinforcing EvoEnergy’s role as a trusted delivery partner across Cranswick’s UK portfolio.
The Milton Keynes project demonstrates how complex, energy-intensive manufacturing facilities can successfully integrate large-scale solar PV while maintaining operational continuity and regulatory compliance.
