Summary

SunShare is an established EvoEnergy solar PV portfolio comprising public-facing sites across Nottinghamshire, originally installed between 2012 and 2013. The portfolio was originally delivered across 20 sites, and remains a significant multi-site solar PV programme supporting local renewable generation.

Following annual inspections, EvoEnergy was appointed to provide specialist consultancy, asset management, and delivery oversight for a complex repowering programme. The work was time-critical, safety-led, and required careful coordination to ensure affected systems were upgraded and recommissioned during school Easter holidays, with minimal disruption and maximum performance recovery.

The Challenge

Routine annual inspections across the SunShare portfolio identified widespread module degradation at several sites, which became particularly evident during damp weather conditions. These faults presented both a health and safety concern and a clear performance issue, with energy generation falling below predicted levels.

As many of the systems were installed on schools and other public buildings, degraded modules created an unacceptable risk to people accessing the sites. In addition, any physical remedial works needed to be completed when children were not present, significantly narrowing the available delivery window. EvoEnergy was therefore tasked with assessing the condition of the assets, determining the most viable technical and commercial route forward, and delivering a coordinated repowering programme within a fixed holiday period.

Our Solution

EvoEnergy provided end-to-end consultancy and delivery management to repower solar PV systems totalling 279.3 kW across the portfolio. Our team carried out detailed technical assessments, including panel testing and system reviews, to confirm the extent of degradation and define the scope of replacement works.

Each site was individually redesigned to meet current DNO requirements, including revised array layouts, upgraded higher-wattage PV modules, and inverter replacements where required to comply with current grid-connection and protection standards, including ALoMCP. EvoEnergy coordinated all aspects of the works, including sourcing compliant equipment, arranging appropriate waste disposal for removed components, managing subcontractors where necessary, and working closely with site stakeholders to agree access and delivery dates.

All repowered systems were fully tested, recommissioned, and integrated into EvoEnergy’s monitoring platform, with inverter communications enabled to provide ongoing performance visibility and monthly generation reporting.

The Results

The repowering programme restored performance across the affected sites, with improved energy output achieved on all repowered systems ahead of the peak generation season. By completing works during the Easter holidays, EvoEnergy ensured public safety risks were addressed without disrupting school operations.

The upgraded systems now operate with modern, compliant equipment, enhanced monitoring, and improved reliability, allowing underperformance and emerging faults to be identified quickly. With the portfolio now standing at 519.67 kWp (following the 49.84 kW Blue Bell system being purchased by the school in 2019/2020), EvoEnergy’s ongoing asset management and due diligence support continues to protect long-term renewable generation and carbon savings, while enabling informed decisions on future remedial works and optimisation.
