Summary

Sunworks C.I. is a Jersey-based solar PV installer with a strong domestic portfolio and an established arrangement with Jersey Electricity, whereby larger commercial solar opportunities are introduced when they become available.

To support these projects, Sunworks engaged EvoEnergy on an ongoing basis to provide specialist consultancy and design support for larger-scale solar PV systems, typically ranging from 200 kWp to 1 MW.

EvoEnergy’s role was to bridge the gap between domestic-scale delivery and the technical demands of commercial solar projects, enabling Sunworks to progress opportunities with greater confidence and assurance.

The Challenge

Although Sunworks has significant experience delivering domestic solar PV installations, larger commercial projects present a different level of technical and delivery complexity.

These schemes required construction-issue design, grid coordination, and a level of technical scrutiny that exceeded Sunworks’ in-house capability.

Without specialist support, there was a risk of design shortcomings, increased costs, and delays, particularly when navigating grid applications and preparing robust, build-ready designs.

Our Solution

EvoEnergy provided flexible consultancy support tailored to each project, offering Sunworks access to a comprehensive menu of services that could be deployed as required. This included survey support, desktop studies, information gathering, health and safety input, project management oversight, detailed concept and construction-issue design development, and independent design quality assurance.

EvoEnergy also undertook grid and DNO assessments, managing and submitting grid applications on Sunworks’ behalf to ensure all designs were compliant with network requirements.

In addition, EvoEnergy supported specification development and procurement readiness, ensuring that projects were technically sound, commercially viable, and ready to progress into construction. All support was delivered through a combination of surveys, desktop analysis, and design work, allowing Sunworks to move projects forward efficiently without the need for site-based consultancy input.

The Result

With EvoEnergy’s construction-ready designs and technical guidance in place, Sunworks was able to take the projects forward into delivery and construct the systems themselves.

In the majority of cases, Sunworks acted directly on EvoEnergy’s recommendations, using the designs and supporting information to progress projects through procurement and installation with greater certainty.

The consultancy support helped Sunworks avoid unnecessary costs associated with less experienced designers, reduced technical risk, and enabled projects to move forward more quickly and smoothly. As an ongoing relationship, this support continues to strengthen Sunworks’ ability to deliver larger commercial solar PV projects as new opportunities arise.
